Thomas jefferson homeThe City of Charlottesville is the home of Thomas Jefferson ad the University of Virginia. Nettles at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Skyline Drive, Charlottesville has often been ranked by several sources as one of the best places to live in the United States. It’s a city that is small enough to offer a laid back feel of a small town and diverse enough to provide an abundance of activities to experience. From first class entertainment venues to college sporting events, there is always something to do. For outdoor folks we are only minutes away from the mountains for hiking, backpacking, scenic drives, (especially in the fall) and the local ski resorts; Massanutten, and Wintergreen. Our medical facilities are second to none with outstanding facilities at the University Of Virginia.

Medical Center at UVAThe Children’s Hospital at UVA is renowned for it’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where babies from around the state are brought for special care. Ground has just been broken on the Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA. Martha Jefferson Hospital is another private hospital in Charlottesville. It is located on Pantops mountain directly off of route 250. They have established an outpatient facility at pants that includes surgery, radiation, an an emergency center. Both hospitals are nationally acclaimed as some of the top hospitals in the country. In recent years we have experienced an explosion in top entertainment venues in Charlottesville. The John Paul Jones Arena was opened in 2006 and was named the Best New Concert Venue. In addition to hosting the UVA Basketball Team, JPJA has hosted everyone from Kenny Chesney to Justin Timberlake. The Paramount Theater was originally built in 1931 and was considered one of Charlottesville premier landmarks. The theater closed in 1974 but through efforts of many it reopened in 2004 totally renovated to it’s original grandeur. The theater offers the community a wide range of arts, education, and entertainment events.

The Charlottesville Pavilion, Located at the eat end of the historic downtown mall, is the city’s premier outdoor venue for live performances. It features premium seating, a spacious lawn, and a professional stage all within walking distance of downtown Charlottesville’s many restaurants charlottesville1and other attractions. For a unique visitor and community experience, tourist should not miss the Downtown Mall. This shopping Center is at the heart of downtown Charlottesville and offers primarily specialty shops and restaurants on a brick walk-way amid old brick buildings. An ice skating rink and a movie theater complex offers entertainment for those those people less inclined to shop. The Downtown Mall often has live music on the Mall. After shopping and listening to live entertainment, visitors can take an inexpensive trolley to tour the rotunda at UVA or shop at “The Corner.” For more historically-minded residents and tourists, Charlottesville sets itself apart from the other cities with a fantastic assortment of historical sites. Charlottesville is a town rich in political history. Not far from the city, visitors can tour the homes of ex-presidents; Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, James Madison, and James Monroe.  Tourist come from across the world to see Jefferson’s architectural wonders, the Rotunda, serpentine walls, and his home at Monticello. Other historical sites include numerous Civil War battlefields west of the city. Tourist and residents can also ride in hot air balloons;play golf at a world-class resort, and tour about 13 local vineyards. Charlottesville is all this and more so take some time to become better acquainted with this exciting city. If you are looking for a place to relocate, Charlottesville is a city worth exploring.

Albemarle County surrounds the City of Charlottesville however has its own government and is run by its Board of Supervisors. There are approximately 92,000 residents in Albemarle County and is covers over 723 square miles. The county is approximately 110 miles of southwest of Washington DC and 70 miles west of Richmond. It is one of the most attractive and desirable locations in Virginia, with and excellent school system, low crime, and unemployment rates.
